PIP News: Helping Newcomers Feel Welcome in PEI

Find out what we've been up to in the first quarter this year

We're excited to share highlights from the past three months, showcasing the PIP team's efforts, partnerships, and collaborations—all supporting building a stronger, more inclusive community.

Immigrant Advisory Table (IAT) Committee members

The PEI Immigration Partnership (PIP) had a busy start to 2025/2026 fiscal year. In the first three months of the year, PIP worked with many partners to help newcomers feel welcome and supported. The Immigrant Advisory Table (IAT), a group of 20 community members, met to discuss newcomer experiences and how services can improve. During this time, 440 newcomers arrived on PEI—most from India, China, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

One big project this quarter was a research and report about access to justice and safety. It showed that many newcomers are afraid to use legal or police services because of language problems or past experiences. The report shared ideas to make these systems safer and easier to use for everyone. This fall, more events are planned, including a second IAT meeting and a big conference about how to help newcomers stay and feel part of Atlantic Canada.
