Community Schools

Learning does not only take place in institutions. Each year several communities across PEI hold community schools during the fall and winter months. PEI Community Schools have been in existence for over 30 years and offer a variety of courses, mainly for adults.

Community schools are based on the volunteer work of instructors and committee members. Together they put in place a curriculum for the education and enjoyment for those who chose to attend. Course topics include everything from art, handcrafts and music, to exercise, personal development, computers etc.

A small registration fee is charged. The schools usually run for 10 weeks and close with a community meal.

With the seasonal nature of PEI's fishing, farming, and tourism industries, community schools are a great way to pass the time during the fall and winter.
